A building permit is required for most construction, alterations or additions to property within the city limits of Garnavillo. You should first refer to the zoning ordinance for requirements and other information regarding the property on which you are planning to build.
Please complete the application form as completely as possible. If you are not sure on any of the information required, please ask for assistance.
When complete return to City Hall for review. If the application is approved, the fee must be paid before the permit will be issued. Fees are based upon the project cost. The permit should be displayed in a weatherproof location and in plain sight at the address for which the permit was issued. Construction must begin within 6 months or the permit will expire. A written request for a one-time extension of six6 months may be made. If a project is started within the required time, but is not completed within two years of the date of issue, the permit will expire, and no construction may take place until a new permit is granted.
Some applications may require a special exception or a variance request, which will require additional time. Do not start any project until a permit is granted.
This work is to be done under the provisions of the Code of Ordinance, Chapter 165, of the City of Garnavillo Code of Ordinances and the undersigned agrees to comply with all of their requirements.
